The Ardrossan Garden of Remembrance in Glasgow Street has enjoyed a much needed improvement recently, thanks to National Lottery funding.
In 2021 the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston Branch noted that the previous railings had nowdeteriorated beyond the point of repair.
So plans were put in place to resolve the issue, which would cost upwards of £5,000, and thank to the national lottery’s community fund this plan could be put into action.
The funding was confirmed in late 2021, though work only concluded last week.
The new design features some decorative finishing touches with poppies displayed at a lower level and a dove of peace flying above.
An RBLS spokesperson said: “Some thought was given to replacement railings and a number of designs, some plain and some decorative, were produced and considered.
“In discussion with a suitable manufacturer, a combination in design was deemed appropriate for a Memorial and Commemorative setting.”
While speaking at the time of the branches successful funding application the National Lottery Community Fund, Scotland Chair, Kate Still: said: “I would like to congratulate Royal British Legion Scotland Saltcoats Ardrossan and Stevenston Branch on their award.
“Theirs is an important project and will support people now and in the future, when they can physically come back together to make great things happen in their community.”
