THE Miss Scotland competition for 2022 has been narrowed down to just 11 finalists – and Ardrossan is due to have representation at the grand final in Glasgow’s Grand Central hotel on July 29.

Courtney Kirk, 22, from Ardrossan, has been selected following the interview process which involved hundreds of women from across the nation.

Talking to the Herald about her selection, Courtney said she is “honoured” and that “it really is a dream come true”.

She beamed: “I am thrilled! I look forward to sharing my experience with the other girls and taking on the challenges ahead of us, and of course picking out my dress for the night.

“I love taking part in any competition. It’s a great confidence boost for me and an amazing opportunity to meet other individuals with the same interests as me.

“Miss Scotland is a very different competition as they are looking for an ambassador for Scotland. They have many challenges but their most important is their beauty with a purpose as it’s about giving back to our country.”

Prior to the event, each contestant has chosen a charity to represent before and during the competition.

Courtney explained: “I will be working with my chosen charity, Samaritans, who aim to provide 24 hour help and a non-judgmental listening ear for anyone struggling to cope.

“I plan on fundraising in order to raise awareness that the connection between people can save lives.

“It’s very rewarding raising money and awareness for a charity which means a lot to you and giving back to the community.”

Away from the stage, Courtney has just submitted her dissertation, after studying Media and Communications for four years at Glasgow Caledonian University.

She said: “I absolutely love social media and connecting with people. I spend a lot of my time working with fashion brands on there.

“Whenever I’m not busy you’ll usually catch me walking along the beach trying to get my daily steps in.”

It isn’t a straightforward journey, and Courtney was extremely grateful for the support she has been given along the way.

She added: “I would love to thank my mum and dad for giving me the confidence to first of all apply for the pageant and the ongoing support they provide me with every day.

“I would also like to thank all of the Miss Scotland Team for giving me the opportunity to be a finalist in the competition and all of the work they put in behind the scenes.

“For your chance to get involved and help me in the competition you can engage with my social media posts about Miss Scotland 2022 by liking, commenting and sharing. All of the support is greatly appreciated.”
