A Stevenston road has been closed off as fire and police crews attend a report of a blaze in Portland Place today, June 17.

The Herald has been told that part of Station Road, as well as Portland Place itself, have been closed off, with several fire and police vehicles on the scene.

According to a Herald source, the fire broke out in one of the units in the small industrial area near Stevenston railway station.

The affected building appears to be one of the yellow units on the station side of Portland Place.

There is no idication as of yet as to when the fire began, though crews are still in attendance at the time of writing, June 17, 1.10pm.

It is also unclear how the blaze may have broken out in the isolated building.

No ambulances have been reported at the scene and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed there are no reported casualties at this time.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.08am on Friday, June 17 to reports of a building on fire at Station Road, Stevenston.

“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and one height vehicle and firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting a two-storey commercial property.

“There are no reported casualties at this time.”

While Police Scotland have commented that they are purely assisting with road access for this incident.

A spokesperson said: A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 11.30am on Friday, June 17, to a report of a fire within an industrial building in Portland Place, Stevenston.

“Officers are assisting colleagues from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and access to Portland Place is currently restricted.”
