NORTH Ayrshire will have another side in the West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) next season, after Eglinton FC had their membership application approved.

The side will join Division Four of the WoSFL set-up for next season, after taking another step forward on their journey.

The team played together last season as Kilwinning Rangers AFC, in amateur football’s Division 2A, having made the step up to that level for the first time after being together at under 19 and 21 level.

They will now take on the name Eglinton FC, a defunct former Kilwinning junior football side who have not been in existence since 1936, as they make the step up.

The side will be comprised largely of players who featured for the team in the amateur divisions last year.

They will also be led by the familiar management team of William Shearer as manager, and first team coaches Sammy Taggart and Stephen Forrest.

The club officially announced their arrival on the WoSFL scene with a social media statement on Saturday.

They said: “Eglinton FC have today been officially accepted into the West Of Scotland Football League!

“All the support is very much appreciated, but this is just the start!

The journey is just beginning, so if you are a player looking to stretch yourself, a business looking to sponsor the journey and get your name out there, or someone who can come and jump onto our board, then get it touch.”

‘The Jousters’ are one of six new teams to enter Division Four for next season, with Easterhouse Academy, Rossvale Academy, Thorn Athletic, Threave Rovers and West Park United also having their membership applications accepted.

They help create a 12-team bottom league for the set up next year which will include some interesting journeys - such as an away trip to face Campbeltown Pupils.

A full fixture list is set to be released tomorrow (Friday, July 1) for the upcoming season.

Though the new side do know one fixture they have coming up, and it’s a real baptism of fire, as they have been drawn away to Pollock in the Traderadiators.com South of Scotland Challenge Cup first round.
