A MOTORCYCLIST is in critical condition in hospital after a crash involving a car on the A78 near Hunterston.

Police received a report of a serious collision involving an Audi A4 and a motorcycle on the A78 Irvine Road at its junction with Fairlie Moor Road at around 5.30pm on Sunday (July 10).

Officers are appealing to the public for information, with the male motorcyclist, aged, 58, having been airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

The 57-year-old female driver of the Audi was uninjured but taken to hospital suffering from shock.

The road was closed as crash scene investigators conducted enquiries at the location and both vehicles have been seized for further examination.

Sergeant Craig Beaver said: “I am appealing to anyone who was on the carriageway around the time of the incident to contact us, particularly if you have a dash cam.

"Please check your footage as your images could prove vital as we work to establish the full circumstances of this collision.”
