FREE swimming and ice-skating sessions for children up to 17 are taking place throughout North Ayrshire.

The event will be held from Monday to Friday in Auchenharvie Leisure Centre, Garnock Community Campus, the Portal in Irvine, and Vikingar! in Largs.

Resulting from a partnership between KA Leisure and North Ayrshire Council, the initiative will run until August 17, giving children a whole summer of free activities.

Places are allocated on a first come first serve basis and no pre-booking is required.

A representative from KA Leisure said: “We are delighted to work in partnership with North Ayrshire Council to provide free swimming and skating during the summer period. The promotion supports families to ensure that cost is not a barrier for children and young people to have fun and stay active.”

Alongside the free swimming and ice-skating sessions, 18 community centres around the area will be offering free school meals during the summer holidays for primary and secondary school children who are entitled to free meals during term time.

These 18 centres, plus an additional four within the area, will also be hosting free activities for all school children during the holidays.

Free drama sessions are also available for school kids during the summer holidays with Largs Youth Theatre running their drama summer camp from July 25 to 29.
