A PUBLIC consultation event on plans for 20 new houses at the site of the former Ardeer Primary School in Stevenston is due to be held this week.

Cunninghame Housing Association is inviting residents to attend the event in order to discuss the proposals and ask any questions about the development in Garven Road.

The site, sandwiched between Garven Road and Morris Moodie Avenue, is designated for housing in North Ayrshire Council’s local development plan and planning permission was previously granted in 2007 for the erection of 19 terraced homes, with further consent given in 2009 for 20 houses.

The old school building has since been demolished and relocated nearby, with the plot of land listed for sale with offers of over £75,000 invited.

The consultation event for the proposed new development is scheduled to take place at Ardeer Neighbourhood Centre in Shore Road between 2pm and 6pm today (Thursday, July 21).

Whilst no official application for planning permission has been lodged with the council as of yet, a document prepared for this week’s event details how the development will look if approved.

Six blocks of houses are proposed for the site, featuring two bungalows – one of which will be wheelchair accessible.
