FIRE crews attended a blaze at an Irvine restaurant this afternoon.

Two appliances attended the Tony Macaroni eatery in Riverway Retail Park at around 3.30pm today (Thursday, August 4).

One eyewitness told the Times that black smoke could be seen "coming out of the door" of the premises.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 3.25pm on Thursday, August 4, to reports of a fire affecting commercial premises at Riverway Retail Park, Irvine.

“Operations control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire and remain in attendance to make the area safe."
