A POPULAR Kilbirnie restaurant and takeaway has had its plans to extend approved by North Ayrshire Council.

Anaya’s, on Bridgend, applied to create a building to the rear of the property which will provide space for functions, including all the necessary associated facilities.

Food would still be provided by the existing kitchen in the restaurant as it is now.

The external space shall also provide an outside area for both the function space and the restaurant.

The plans visualise the space being used for small functions such as funerals and births, while it may also be suitable for social occasions and community groups to use.

The premises would operate right through the day.

The outside space would remain in use until 10pm or it becomes dark outside, whichever comes first. Plans also state that they do not expect to utilise this area often in the winter.

They also state: “There shall be no music played outside and the area will be controlled by staff to ensure that any excessive noise is minimised so not to disturb neighbours.”

However, there was still some opposition to these plans prior to approval, especially from those in nearby properties.

One complaint said: “Our gardens are private, and therefore do not want any noise, functions or general breaches of our peace.”

While another raised objections due to the congestion it would cause on an already busy road.

They said: “I note that the application does not mention what the additional capacity will be but can only presume that any increase will require more staff, more deliveries and more vehicle and pedestrian movements around an area that is already at a dangerous level.”
