A CYCLIST has died after a crash on a North Ayrshire road, police have confirmed.

The 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on the A760 between Largs and Kilbirnie. 

Police said the crash happened at 6.35am on Wednesday, August 10 and involved a bike and a white Mercedes van.

The 37-year-old male driver of the van was not injured.

The incident took place on the part of the road near to the Muirhead Reservoir, and officers are looking for anyone who may have information on the incident to come forward.

The road has since re-opened after closing earlier while the crash scene was investigated and cops conducted their enquiries.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans, from Ayrshire's road policing department, said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family at this very difficult time.

"Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing and we would urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or assisted at the scene after to contact officers.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage from around the time of the crash.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 0494 of Wednesday, August 10, 2022."
