The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across the south east of England, including Hampshire.

This weather warning is in place until 11.59pm today (August 17).

Areas also affected by the warning include other parts of the south east such as Southampton as well as the east and south west of England with London also affected.

In terms of what to expect, the Met Office has said:

  • Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
