A CELTIC journalist from Stevenston has sparked an online frenzy with his take on Parkhead boss Ange Postecoglou's links to the Brighton and Hove Albion job.

Sean Markus Clifford shared an online article which tipped the Australian for "bigger things" than the Celtic job, amid supposed interest from the Seagulls.

Sean shared this on Twitter, simply stating that "Celtic is a far bigger job than Brighton".

The take sparked a lot of online debate, especially from fans of the English Premier League.

The tweet gained thousands of interactions, including copious replies conteracting the opinion.

While some other Twitter users simply stated "this is rubbish" others took a more measured approach, claiming "they are a bigger club but in no way are they a bigger job".

Sean spoke to the Herald regarding the Tweet, stating he never imagined it causing as much debate as it has.

He said: "To be honest I just posted it a couple of days ago not thinking anything of it, then the next morning I woke up and my phone was going crazy, I suppose that comes with the territory of social media these days.

"The response has been interesting, I’ve had loads of people message me to say they’ve seen it. Other people have their opinions and are entitled to them, it’s completely fair and if anything it’s given me a good insight into how other people view the point I made.

"I didn’t expect it to get any attention to be honest, given that I use my social media to tweet random opinions all of the time.

"Nevertheless, it's been quite funny seeing loads of people shouting me to say they’ve seen it, even those who aren’t into football so much."

One of the biggest responses Sean received was a TikTok video from football creator Callum Fowler. His account has around 35,000 followers, and the video of his take on the Tweet received over 150,000 views.

In the video, Callum said Sean's take "angered him". He described Celtic as a bigger team but Brighton as a "far far bigger job".

The TikTok creator continued: "The very best players that Scotland and Celtic and Rangers have to offer go to teams like Southampton and Brighton.

"It's no different with managers, because the standard is higher, it's a step up to go from Celtic to Brighton.

"The Scottish league is a pub league, you're going from there to the biggest league in the world, it's a natural step up.

"If he (Ange Postecoglou) had any ambition, he'd want to leave Celtic, go to Brighton, then take another step up and go from Brighton to a Chelsea like (Graham) Potter has done."

Though Sean isn't so confident that his manager may choose to move on.

He said: "I very much hope Ange will stick around, as he’ll probably make me look a bit daft if he doesn’t!

"In all seriousness, I’d like to think he’d be keen to continue as Celtic try to compete to win more trophies in Scotland and compete in the Champions League.

"Saying that, the money and prestige on offer in the Premier League will surely be something he will be keen to sample at some point in his career. I suppose time will tell on that front."
