THINGS are 'loo-king' good at Douglas Park after a £5,000 grant helped to fund a new portable toilet.

The park on Irvine Road has been without any public facilities for a number of years after the council demolished the previous structure.

Now volunteers are looking to the future and have been successful in the first part of their plan to bring permanent toilets back to Douglas Park.

Wendy Low Thomson, who has been leading the drive to improve the park alongside Caroline Morgan, hopes the portaloo will show the need for a permanent block to be build.

She explained: "We've wanted to put in a proper toilet ever since we started the renovation two years ago, but we have to prove first that here is a need for it.

“Thanks to the funding from the Kelburn Windfarm Trust, we have been able to install a fully accessible portaloo for the next year at least."

The facility will be removed during winter, but will return in the spring.

Wendy believes says improvement works will continue.

She said: “The next step is to get some kind of water fountain put in like they have in the town centre.

“The park is looking amazing at the minute with colours everywhere, and we want to have the facilities to match that.

“Our volunteer numbers are great but we can always use more, so people at a loose end should get in touch with us – there’s always something to do."
