THE group resonsible for the restoration of a popular Saltcoats play park are inviting locals to their grand opening event.

This will take place tomorrow, September 24, commencing at 12.30pm at the newly renovated Winton Circus play park.

The idea was the brainchild of Donna McGregor who went on, with a group of friends, to form the Saltcoats Active Lifestyle Team (SALT).

Following an initial phone call to Saltcoats and Stevenston SNP councillor Jean McClung a little more than a year ago, and subsequent hours of hard work and determination by the SALT members, Saltcoats now has a brand new play facility of which the town can be proud of.

The park itself features plenty of equipment for a great, fun day out at the seaside. From its showpiece pirate ship slide, to a completely accessible basket swing suitable for children with additional needs.

There is even something for the adults with fitness equipment also installed, alongside new picnic benches for the inevitable rest which will be needed!

Since opening for the first time since work had been carried out last month, the park has been a real hit for those in the Three Towns and beyond.

Now the SALT group are preparing to give it a proper opening day, which is sure to be a great day for all.

Councillor Jean McClung commented: "This will be a truly fabulous event for all, which will include entertainment from Fabulous Fraser, and Drums for Life. There will be face-painting, and a scavenger hunt with prizes.

"Captain Jack Sparrow will be in attendance along with Saltcoats’ own Betsy Miller, the world’s first woman sea-captain who was born in Quay Street and sailed her ships out of Saltcoats harbour."

All events taking place will be free of charge.

The Winton Circus play park is located next to the Premier Cinema and Oscars on The Esplanade in Saltcoats.
