ONE of the UK's biggest trade unions has launched a Three Towns specific campaign this month.

Unite the Union have began a campaign across Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston which looks to campaign for a "better deal" for local care workers.

This has included starting a petition, setting up a social media presence and attending local meetings while getting out and about in the community.

A campaign spokesperson has said: "Our aim is to highlight the importance of the great work that our local care and support workers provide to those who require assistance and support in their daily lives.

"Care and support workers give so much to the communities of Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston as well as throughout Scotland.

"However, at Unite, we know that they deserve more pay and better terms and conditions for the brilliant work that they do.

"This is why we are launching a public petition in support of these workers so please look out for us throughout the Three Towns."

The petition can be viewed online by scanning the QR code included in the campaign posters. Or you can find it here.

The campaign social media page also shows the community presence throughout the Three Towns since it went live at the beginning of this month.

Their first stop was Arran View Care Home in Saltcoats. Since then they have canvassed on the streets of Saltcoats and Stevenston and engaged with care workers based a Todhill Country Centre.

On their campaigning so far, the group have said: "What a brilliant response from the Three Towns folk who know the important role that local care and support staff have in the local communities.

"We will be campaigning in Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston for the foreseeable future so please come and say hello.

"(It's) Always great to be out working alongside local Unite members from our retired members and community branches."

Though why exactly have they chosen now to launch? They have looked to explain this out on the streets - referencing the challenges of not only the cost of living crisis, but Covid pandemic.

They have said: "As the cost of living continues to rise, and with Scottish adult social care facing multiple challenges, our local and national care and support workers are at the front line.

"Let's Unite to get a better deal for these workers."
