Working people who suffer the terrible ordeal of miscarriage are being given much-needed support in difficult times from North Ayrshire Council.

The Miscarriage Association Pregnancy Loss Pledge is being backed by the council and aims to provide support in work environments for those who have suffered a pregnancy loss.

Cabinet member for finance, Christina Larsen said in response to a question from Councillor Chloe Robertson: “Having personally experienced the loss of two babies myself, I know what a difficult a time it can be for parents.

“I am pleased that the council is fully committed to the pregnancy loss pledge, which is a new campaign which urges employers to commit to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage and it asks employers to create a supportive work environment to make sure line managers have access to resources to help them manage a difficult situation and to support people back to work by showing flexibility where possible.

“The HR Team with support of Trades Unions have been developing an HR Guide to Pregnancy Loss.

“This will provide employees and managers with lots of support and guidance and this also  includes up to 10 days paid leave for parents who have suffered pregnancy loss.

“We are pleased to be able to support such an important pledge and anticipate this will be welcomed by our employees.”
