Ardrossan’s Christmas lights will be turned on next month during a family fun day filled with markets and live music.

The Ardrossan Civic Centre will host the festive celebrations on Saturday, November 19 with markets starting at 4pm, Christmas lights being switched on at 4.45pm, and live performances kicking off at 5pm.

A ‘Santa Parade’ to the Centre will also leave off from Hill Street at 4.30pm.

As the event is organised by independent group the Ardrossan Christmas Decorations Committee (ACDC), the light switch-on requires support from local people and businesses.

Businesses who donate to the committee will be featured in the Christmas event programme and highlighted on the group’s Facebook page.

Shops can also donate by purchasing a vinyl window sticker in the shape of a Christmas tree at £35.

Committee member Alison Montgomery said: “ACDC are asking all Ardrossan businesses and shops to please donate to the Christmas light fund and to support the committee in any way they can.

“There are numerous costs involved in getting Christmas lights erected including the cost of a licence to erect street fittings, electricity running costs, public liability insurance, ongoing repairs and replacement of lights, and testing of wall fixtures.

“Any donations no matter how big or small would be appreciated.”

Those who wish to donate to the Christmas light fund can do so by getting in touch with the committee via email at ally.bally@talktalk.net or by telephone on 07531744742.
