UPDATE (November 2) - The road has now re-opened
THE driver of a vehicle involved in what initially appeared to be a hit and run incident has now handed themselves into the police.
The incident occurred earlier this evening, November 1, on South Beach Road in Ardrossan.
Police say they were called to an incident on the street involving a car and a male pedestrian.
Officers say that the driver of the car initially left the scene, however has since presented themselves to the police.
South Beach Road remains closed at present, as cops look to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.45pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, police were called to South Beach Road in Ardrossan, following a report of a crash involving a car and a male pedestrian.
"The man has been taken to hospital for treatment. The car left the scene, however the driver has since presented themselves and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
"The road remains closed at this time, with diversions in place.”
