MEMBERS of a Saltcoats church congregation enjoyed a celebratory family service last weekend to rejoice and to recall the history of an iconic building in the local community.

Eighty members of the congregation raised the roof at St Cuthbert’s Parish Church on Sunday (October 30) as the programme of worship was interspersed with memories of years gone by for an uplifting service.

Recollections of Sunday School trips and Nativity plays stimulated memories for those who had been pupils, while the addition of keyboard, flute, guitar and drums to the praise helped to lift the mood.

The place of worship was built in 1908 replacing the previous church now known as the Heritage Centre in the Kirkgate.

At the same service warmest congratulations and best wishes were extended to Rev Tom Macintyre on the 50th anniversary of his ordination.

A former minister of Stevenston High Kirk Tom and his wife Marian recently retired from Shetland back to the locality.
