Tots at the West Kilbride Early Years Centre learned all about Remembrance Day as they made poppy-themed crafts.

On Friday (November 11) the youngsters made poppies for the soldiers and painted stones to look like poppies as they learned about the history of the day and watched stories about the day on CBeebies.

Children also laid wreaths and crosses at the nursery’s memorial in their garden.

Early years manager at the nursery Angela Pisani said: “In our nursery garden we have a memorial in place for members of the community to be able to gather and reflect about the sacrifices that were made.

“The children knew that some people wore poppies and some children had siblings in the Boy’s Brigade and that they would be marching in a parade up to the War memorial in West Kilbride.”

Some of the children, all aged between three and five, had a few words they wanted to say about Remembrance Day and to the soldiers.

Luke said, “Good night soldiers”; Millie said, “Thank you”; Hallie said, “My mummy wears a poppy”; Emma said, “Good night”; Rory said, “The soldiers went to fight”.
