A STUDENT who shared a series of misogynistic threats on social media claiming he "will kill one day" and "women will be my victim" has been let off with a fine.

Twisted Gary Moore admitted posting several sick messages on Facebook stating he "hates women" and is a "woman beater and proud" - but the 32-year-old insisted that it was "the drink speaking, not me" when questioned by police.

Moore, of Glasgow Street in Ardrossan, pleaded guilty at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly posting messages of an offensive nature on social media stating his intention to kill and harm women and also to kill himself.

The November 3 hearing was told that another Facebook user noticed a post from Moore at around 2am on November 28 last year saying: "It was nice knowing everyone but I'm going to kill myself tonight."

A further post from the same profile stated: "You know what, I'm going to kill all women on the f*****g planet, don't f*****g like women. I will batter f**k out of every woman, no matter what. I hate women. I want to kill them and I will. I am coming for you women."

A third post of a similar nature read: "I am a woman beater and proud. I will batter women to death because I hate women. I will kill one day, women will be my victim."

Moore published two further posts, stating: "I love being evil to women", and "I hate people, especially women. I really want to kill you, I hate women."

The witness who observed the posts contacted police and officers attended Moore's home for a welfare check.

Police obtained screenshots of the posts from the witness before officers traced Moore and he stated he was safe and well and had no intention of causing harm.

He then attended Saltcoats police office on December 6, 2021 where he was interviewed and admitted posting the messages. He was cautioned and charged to which he replied: "I didn't mean any of it, I'm sorry. It was the drink speaking, not me."

Defence solicitor Alex Muir told the court his client is currently on a two-year community payback order imposed in 2021, and said Moore has previous convictions but none involving women.

Mr Muir said: "His position to me was that he was very drunk at the time of posting the messages, they were not aimed at a particular person, but I can understand - as does he - that it was quite disturbing material to be out in the public domain."

Sheriff George Jamieson described Moore's behaviour as "abhorrent" but said he does seem to be "keeping out of trouble" since the incident.

Moore was fined a total of £640, payable at a rate of £30 per fortnight.
