IT has been confirmed there were no casualties after a car caught fire in Stevenston this morning, November 15.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident at the busy Pennyburn Roundabout shortly after 8am morning.

One fire appliance attended the scene to put out the blaze, and ensure the area was safe.

Police Scotland were also in attendance, though this was only to deal with road traffic management.

It was also confirmed that the Scottish Ambulance Service were not required at the scene.

The Pennyburn Roundabout is a busy commuter route at this time of day, connecting the Three Towns, Kilwinning and Irvine.

Eyewitnesses from the scene say that as the situation progressed, traffic slowed but the road did not close.

The vehicle, appeared to be heading from the Sharphill Roundabout in Saltcoats via the A78.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.23am on Tuesday, November 15, to reports of a fire affecting a car at Pennyburn Roundabout, Stevenston.

"Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.

"There were no reported casualties."
