SALTCOATS' MP and MSP have cast their eye over progress at a new housing development in the town.

Patricia Gibson MP and Kenneth Gibson MSP visited Persimmon’s Arran View development in the town, which is currently in its second of three stages.

Once each stage is completed, the development will feature 236 new homes, with properties varying between two, three and four bedrooms.

The local politicians met with workers and apprentices to hear about the home builder’s investment across North Ayrshire.

Cunninghame North MSP Kenneth Gibson and North Ayrshire and Arran MP Patricia Gibson – the SNP shadow secretary of state for housing, communities and local government – were given a tour of the site and met the local Persimmon team to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the housing sector.

Mr Gibson said: “We welcomed the opportunity to visit Arran View and discuss Persimmon’s ongoing local development plans and the challenges currently facing the industry – from labour shortages to rising costs, mortgage rate rises and economic uncertainty – as well as the forward planning of new sites in North Ayrshire.”

Ms Gibson added: “I was delighted to meet the staff and construction workers on the Saltcoats site that will deliver new Persimmon homes at competitive prices for my constituents.”

Chris Logan, Persimmon West Scotland managing director, said: “It was great to welcome Kenneth and Patricia to our Arran View development to show them the new homes and investment in the community that will benefit local residents.

“As one of North Ayrshire’s biggest home builders, we’re creating successful and vibrant communities across the local authority area and helping to attract new working-age residents to live here.

"Our home buyers in North Ayrshire are typically young adults and growing families, and nearly half are first-time buyers.

“With the average price of a Persimmon home 18 per cent below the average price of a new build in Scotland, we’re proud to be opening the door to home ownership for more families in Saltcoats and across North Ayrshire.”

The Arran View development is located to the north of existing residential areas at St Andrews Court, Clytus Court and Betsy Miller Wynd, and to the west of the previous phase of the Sharphill housing development, which is currently under construction.
