Community drum circles are helping Three Towns residents with their mental health.

Drum4URLife is run by musician Michelle Connolly and allows locals to come together to “drum for wellbeing” – regardless of anyone’s past musical experience or ability.

Sessions take place on Wednesdays in the Ardrossan Scout Hub between 1.30pm and 3pm.

Michelle said: “There’s just that real connection through music and the drumming – it’s been a pretty phenomenal experience.

“For me personally as a musician you’re always taught to play by the script but for drumming circles it’s the complete opposite you go with the group, and you find what’s benefitting everyone.

“You create these moments of absolute joy and uproarious laughter.”

Group members have been thoroughly enjoying the sessions, praising the sense of community and the fun that everyone shares within them.

One drummer said: "I have found an activity that has been interesting and exciting enough to dampen the anxiety I get in group situations.

“You make it so much fun Michelle, and amaze me with your patience and friendly, welcoming approach with everyone."

Another added: "I have enjoyed getting out and being part of something. I have made new friends and drumming has helped my mental health in so many ways.

“You don't have to be a musician to play."

The sessions are partnered with the North Ayrshire Wellbeing & Recovery College who they receive support from.
