BUFFS boss David Gormley admitted his side’s league position “isn’t looking the best” after Friday night’s defeat to Glenafton.

Kilwinning Rangers ended the weekend in the West of Scotland Premiership relegation zone, after a last minute Sean McKenzie goal handed the visiting Glens a 1-0 win at Buffs Park.

Speaking to Kilwinning Rangers TV (KRTV) after the match under the lights on Friday, Gormley cut a frustrated figure, after his side dominated for most of the match.

He said: “We’ve just been beat in a game of football so aye, I’m disappointed, but that was the definition of a smash and grab three points.

“Fair play to them, they’ve won the game of football that was on offer tonight.”

And it was a tough one to take for the home side as they hit the post twice, crossbar once and Thomas Collins had not one, but two goals ruled out for offside.

They also squandered numerous good chances in front of goal, with the Glens putting their bodies on the line on several occasions to keep the match level.

Then with one of the game’s last kicks, in the 91st minute, Sean McKenzie was slipped through, and finished well beyond Craig Gordon - handing Ryan Stevenson’s side the victory.

Gormley told KRTV: “It’s a hard one for me because you can’t go in there and start shouting and bawling, start saying to players ‘you didn’t play well’ because ultimately it was a really good performance from us.

“It’s just one of those nights, we’ve rattled the bar, we’ve rattled the post twice, we’ve had two tight decisions just offside and we’ve had three or four straight at their goalkeeper – it was a real frustrating night for us.

“It’s just one you’ve got to look at and maybe learn from it in terms of not to panic in front of goal.”

The Buffs now sit third from bottom, though have as many as three games in hand to sides only three points ahead of them.

Gormley isn’t going to panic yet, and knows his side can and will improve.

He added: “The league position isn’t looking the best for us to be honest, obviously with the start we’ve still got some games to catch up on but we need to put the points on the board.

“We’ve got four games before the turn of the year, three league and a cup, we’ve all went in there, we’ve all just set wee targets now.

“We’ll try put tonight behind us and we’ll look forward because we’re on a good run – we’ve went out in the last 11 and won eight.”
