A MAN is in hospital in a critical condition following a one vehicle crash on the B714 in Dalry.

The road connecting the town and Saltcoats was closed for an extended period last night while police investigated the accident.

The incident occurred at around 7.25pm yesterday, December 4, and the road did not re-open until around 3.30am this morning, December 5.

The crash only involved one car, a black Suzuki Swift. The driver, a 47-year-old man, sustained serious leg, arm and head injuries and was taken to The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment. His condition is described as critical.

Police say the crash took place around 600 metres south of Craighead Farm.

Road policing officers are now appealing for anyone with information on the incident to get in touch.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing to anyone who saw the vehicle before the crash or saw what happened to get in touch.

“In particular if you have dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation then please contact us on 101, quoting incident number 2800 of Sunday, December 4, 2022.”
