A Stevenston football club have donated gifts to local community centres after a successful Christmas toy drive.

Ardeer Thistle, alongside The Station Bar, concluded their appeal this week and have since donated the toys they collected to the Ardeer Community Centre in Stevenston and the Whitlees Centre in Ardrossan.

Head of youth development for the club, Stuart Roy, said: “We are all overwhelmed with the support we have had from Ardeer Thistle FC, Ardeer Thistle Youth Academy, and The Station Bar for helping us store all the gifts and Highland Meats for their massive £300 donation to it.

“Also, thank you to everyone who made donations to help out families this Christmas.”

The club first dropped off toys with the Ardeer Community Centre on Tuesday December 13.

The Ardeer Community Association’s Committee said: “We are extremely grateful for the donations contributed to our Toy drive for the community by Ardeer Thistle and the Station Bar. We know how much it means to families struggling this Christmas.

“The difference a single toy can make to a child, they should be so proud of themselves for their hard work in making sure that no child goes without.

“We cannot thank you all enough.”

The Whitlees Community Centre were equally as grateful to the club and noted that overall they had received around 2,000 more toy donations this year compared to last year.

Whitlees Centre Coordinator July Gray said: “There were four big six by four tables full of toys donated by Ardeer Thistle.

“At the Whitlees Community Centre we do appreciate everything Ardeer Thistle does for us all year round.

“We wish them a merry Christmas and a happy New Year”
