A POPULAR Kilbirnie restaurant and takeaway are doing their utmost to spread the cheer this Christmas.

Anaya's in Kilbirnie will be providing for those families most in need by donating an amazing 100 Christmas dinners on December 25.

A post making the announcement was only shared yesterday, December 21, with initial plans to donate 50 meals - but after an outstanding community response, they have doubled this number.

A Facebook post from the family-run restaurant stated: "We have decided to try spread some festive cheer during this difficult time.

"We would like to donate 50 Christmas dinners on Christmas Day to families locally who are genuinely struggling.

"If you private message our page we will give you details of collection. Hopefully we can help those who are most in need."

And for those at the restaurant, they hope this is only the beginning, as they look to give back to a community which they say has helped them so much.

A spokesperson for the restaurant told the Herald: "We know that just now everyone is struggling with the increase in cost of living, we wanted to help out the local community.

"We have been running the local family business for over eight years, and the community supported us during COVID and difficult times and now it's seems right to give back to the local community.

"The response to our post has been overwhelming and we have decided to do an extra 50 meals and some extra treats.

"We hope to bring a smile to some local faces and provide a little less stress during these difficult times.

"We hope to be able to do more throughout the year to help locals not just at Christmas."
