A PENSIONER has been taken to hospital after a suspected hit-and-run in Kilbirnie.

Police are appealing for information after a serious crash at Bridgend around 6.10pm last night (Tuesday, January 10).

The incident, involving a car and a pedestrian, happened near to Muirend Street.

The pedestrian, a 72-year-old man, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment where his condition is described as stable.

Police say enquiries are ongoing to trace the car.

A post on social media on Tuesday evening claimed the elderly man was "hit by a car at Tesco garage when crossing the road" and the vehicle allegedly "decided to drive away".

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “We are appealing to the public for information as part of our ongoing enquiry to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“If you were in the area at the time then please get in touch. We are keen to speak to any drivers with dash-cam footage that could assist.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2691 of Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
