North Ayrshire Heritage Centre has opened its first exhibition of 2023 - ‘Titanic: Honour and Glory’- with iconic movie memorabilia in tow.

On display will be Kate Winslet’s dress from James Cameron’s Titanic movie as well as a letter written on board the Titanic and a nightie worn by survivor Margaret Wells Baron Swift.

A representative from the centre said: “From construction in Belfast to the fateful maiden voyage, the exhibition features interviews and a wide variety of artefacts including examples of the china dinner plates upon which the meals were served onboard the Titanic.

“There’s a letter, written onboard the Titanic, from Frederick Banfield, a passenger from second class and there is a white nightie worn by survivor Margaret Wells Baron Swift when she boarded one of the lifeboats.

“You will get a glimpse of the liner’s interior and the luxury enjoyed by passengers aboard a White Star liner through examples from the sister ships, Olympic and Britannia.

“We also have a selection of props from the movie Titanic, including dresses worn by Kate Winslet, and the heart of the ocean necklace.”

The exhibition is free to attend and is on display in the North Ayrshire Heritage Centre’s Saltcoats hub on Manse Street.
