A THREE Towns man convicted of sexually assaulting a teenager while she was drunk has been placed on the sex offenders register.

Michael Watson was found guilty of sexual assault following a trial in November and sentencing was deferred until earlier this month.

The Saltcoats resident was found to have seized the then 18-year-old on her clothing and attempted to remove her lower clothing at his home in Kerr Avenue on November 2, 2021.

Court papers stated the 30-year-old committed the offence whilst the victim was intoxicated and incapable of consenting.

Defence solicitor Brian Holliman told a hearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on January 20 that the offence is 15 months old and there has been no further offending since.

Sheriff Reid sentenced Watson to a community payback order (CPO) with an 18-month supervision requirement.

He must complete 160 hours of unpaid work within a year and he will also be made subject to sex offender notification requirements for the duration of the CPO.
