A Kilwinning man has organised a fund-raising concert full of local talent to raise money for North Ayrshire’s food larders.

Michael Kirkum has planned the ‘Cranberry Jam’ concert, which will take place on April 15 at 7pm in Kilwinning’s Cranberry Moss Community Centre - with all profits going to the food larder to help residents during the cost-of-living crisis.

Ardrossan soprano singer Katie Cochrane, Irvine saxophonist Gerry O’Hagan, Kilwinning guitarist Julian Mclaughlan junior, Saltcoats singer-songwriter Craig Scott, Ayr musician Faz Ahern, and Kilwinning singer-songwriter Siannen McIlroy make up the bill for the night.

Michael said: “There’s folk struggling just now, and this is going to help more than one family – this will help quite a few families.

“I’ve got some very good artists coming and they’re usually busy but they’re giving their time for me.

“It’s a community concert to help the community in this living crisis that we’re all facing to make it a wee bit easier for people.”

A raffle is also planned to take place at the concert so any prize donations will be warmly welcomed.

The event has only been in the works since last Friday but Michael already has a full line-up of artists, a venue booked, and an alcohol licence organised.

Michael has been raising funds in the local area for the past 30 years with his last appeal being his tenth Christmas gift collection for children at Crosshouse Hospital.

Taking place across December 2022, the collection was Michael’s most successful yet as generous locals donated items like chocolate, teddy bears, and even Nintendo Switch games.

Tickets cost £10 and can be booked by calling Michael on 07961 540780 or emailing him at mgkirkum89@outlook.com.
