AN AMATEUR football club has been left devastated after a fire broke out in their clubhouse.

This latest development has put their plans on ice for even longer.

Three fire appliances attended the blaze on Friday, February 3, and their were no casualties as a result of this.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.01 pm on Friday, February 3 to reports of a fire at Viewfield Amateur Football Club, Lochwinnoch.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene and firefighters extinguished a building fire.

“There were no casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe”.

The club say the damage to their pavilion clubhouse appears extensive, and they now have to wait and see the full extent of strucural damage before they decide their next steps.

They now intend to research fundraising avenues to find a long term solution to the issues caused.

In the meantime, they hope to still be able to play matches come their intended start back date in March - they are on the look out to source a temporary cabin to use as changing rooms for this.

Early reports have suggested the fire may have been caused by a wiring issue with a fan - though nothing has yet been confirmed.

The club thanked all the locals who have been in touch so far and also to those who called the emergency services so quickly.

They also invited anyone with more information on the fire - as well as potential avenues of fundraising - to get in touch.
