A THREE Towns woman will go on trial later this year charged with assaulting a child.

Melissa Farrell, from Ardrossan, faces three charges involving the same youngster at two addresses in the town.

The 35-year-old is said to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by acting aggressively towards a then-12-year-old girl at a property in September 2019.

She allegedly shouted, swore and uttered offensive and threatening remarks towards the child.

Court documents claimed that on various occasions between September 2019 and April 2022 at the same locations, Ms Farrell assaulted the girl by seizing hold of her, spitting on her, throwing a chair and a cup at her, dragging her into a room, pulling her hair and striking her on the head to her injury.

The charge added that she kicked the child on the body, punched her on the head and body, pulled her to the floor and removed her phone from her grasp.

A third charge states that on two occasions over the same time period and at the same addresses, Ms Farrell maliciously smashed a mobile phone.

Ms Farrell pleaded not guilty to the charges and a trial is due to take place at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in April.
