An award-winning Arran brewery is celebrating having its ale sold on tap in a Westminster bar.

Managing director of the Brodick-based Arran Brewery, Gerald Michaluk, visited the Strangers Bar in the House of Commons to pour a pint of their very own ‘Guide Ale’ which is being served in Parliament as part of their guest ale programme.

The beer, which won the bronze prize in 2016's International Beer Challenge, is able to enjoy its time in Parliament thanks to MP Patricia Gibson’s recommendation.

She said: "I was delighted to sponsor a guest beer from Arran Brewery in the House of Commons, and welcome Mr Gerald Michaluk, owner of the brewery, to raise a glass of its award-winning popular Guide Ale.

“I am sure the light, refreshing, 3.8 per cent ABV beer, which is brewed from the purest water and natural ingredients, imparting citrus aromas and striking flavours, will be enjoyed by many on the parliamentary estate."

The beer’s stint in Westminster marks one of the brewery’s first steps to expand its business outside of Scotland.

A successful move, the beer has been selling well and receiving good reviews from patrons.

Gerald said: "We are indebted to Patricia Gibson MP for recommending our beer and it is great to see it, in pride of place, in the Westminster bar.

“Patricia also welcomed us to the House of Commons to see our beer and even pulled the perfect pint, having worked in a bar in her youth.”

The beer is named after the song written by Robert Burns in 1795 ‘Guide Ale Keeps The Heart Aboon’ and is one of the brewery’s most popular beers as part of their core range.
