THE DRIVER of a vehicle that was involved in a police car chase before crashing in West Kilbride has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences.

The 29-year-old male failed to stop for police officers when signalled to do so in Largs yesterday, Friday March 10, afternoon.

He was then followed by cops before crashing on the A78 in West Kilbride, around Snowdon Terrace.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) stated that two other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The driver of the vehicle which was chased by police was taken to hospital for treatment following the collision and no one else was injured.

The Scottish Ambulance Service were also in attendance and an air ambulance helicopter was seen flying to the scene - though local reports suggest this was not required.

The road was closed in both directions around the scene of the crash, which took place at around 4pm, before re-opening about three hours later.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A car failed to stop when signalled by officers in Largs around 3.50pm on Friday, March 10.

“The vehicle was followed and was subsequently involved in a collision with other cars on the A78 near West Kilbride around 4pm.

“A 29 year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. He has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences and enquiries are ongoing.

“No one else was injured and the road has now been fully reopened.”

While the SFRS confirmed that they sent three fire appliances and a specialist rescue unit to the scene after receiving a call at around 4.05pm.

An SFRS spokesperson said the vehicles involved had been made safe before fire crews left the scene.

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been approached for further comment.
