THE Arran Mountain Rescue Team were called into action yesterday [Tuesday March 14] after a hill runner fell "a significant distance".

They were running from the north buttress of Stacach Ridge, north of Goatfell, when the accident happened at around 3pm.

The runner sustained multiple injuries, however, the mountain rescue team were quickly on hand to come to their aid.

The winched the casualty on board their 'Rescue 199' helicopter and they were flown to hospital for treatment.

The current condition of the hill runner is not clear at this time.

The mountain rescue team confirmed the callout in a statement yesterday, several hours after the rescue.

A respresentative from the vounteer group said: "The team were called out at approximately 1500hrs today to assist a hill runner who had fallen a significant distance from the North buttress of Stacach Ridge, north of Goatfell, sustaining multiple injuries.

"Thankfully the cloud lifted shortly after the call which allowed Rescue 199 to drop their winchman down to the casualty to start treatment before picking up several team members and dropping them on the ridge.

"The winchman and team members packaged the casualty before he was winched on board Rescue 199 and flown to hospital.
