Humza Yousaf has made his first appointment as First Minister.

He has put Shona Robison in as his deputy first minister in the cabinet.

He said he will be making his full cabinet selections later this week as he takes over from Nicola Sturgeon.

Ms Robison is a former Health Secretary who was in the post from 2014 until 2018 when Ms Sturgeon was First Minister.

Ms Robison was replaced by Jeane Freeman in a reshuffle after she quit the post amid calls for her to resign over missed targets.

She was most recently cabinet secretary for Social Justice under Ms Sturgeon.

Yousaf revealed the appointment following his election as First Minister.

He said: “On Thursday, I will nominate the team of Ministers who will deliver on those priorities.

"I will then set out more detailed policies to this chamber in the first week after the Easter recess.

“I am also pleased to confirm my intention to appoint Shona Robison as Deputy First Minister – her counsel and cross-government experience has been indispensable to me so far, and I look forward to working together as we deliver for the people of Scotland."
