EASTER was a big success at the Three Towns Growers' allotments in Ardrossan.

For a while, it looked as though the annual event for youngsters might have to be cancelled, following recent vandalism at the Elm Park site.

But local campaigner Michael Kirkum and his son Michael junior stepped in to save the day.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

A spokesperson for the Growers revealed on Facebook: "With all the goings on that have been happening at the allotments we did not think we would be able to have an Easter event this year.

"But thanks to the kind donation of Easter eggs from Michael Kirkum Jnr and Michael Kirkum, the kids group wanted to go ahead with the event."

The fun on Good Friday saw 154 Easter eggs handed out to the wee ones.

It also included an Easter hunt for bunnies and a chance for the kids to make bird feeders.

The two Michaels are best known for their work bringing cheer to children spending Christmas and Easter in hospital at Crosshouse, with their years of annual appeals having recently resulted in the donation of a 10,000th chocolate egg to bring a seasonal smile to youngsters in the area.
