POLICE were called to an Ardrossan beach this morning after what was believed to be an unexploded wartime device was discovered.
Officers were seen to cordon off an area of the North Shore Beach shortly after 11am, while the coastguard team were also reported to be in attendance.
Police have since confirmed that this cordon was set up as a precaution while the EOD (Explosives Ordnance Disposal) attended the scene.
They later removed the item from the beach and it was found to be non-suspicious and of no danger to the public.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.10 am on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, police were called following the recovery of what was thought to be an unexploded wartime device on North Shore Beach, Ardrossan.
"A cordon was set up as a precaution and the EOD (Explosives Ordnance Disposal) attended and removed the item which was found to be non-suspicious and no danger to the public."
