PLANS to erect a massive telecommunications pole in Ardrossan have been put to North Ayrshire Council.

Prior notification has been submitted to the local authority regarding a 15m high mast on Stanley Road.

The development would be situated at the end of the road, between the turn in for Stanley Square and its junction with Dalry Road.

This site is around 12.5m away from an existing mast of a similar height on the corner between Stanley Road and Dalry Road.

Looking at the application itself in more detail, this has been lodged as a prior notification form.

This means that the development should generally be acceptable in principle in planning terms - meaning no planning permissions is required.

However, before work can commence, North Ayrshire Council - as planning authority - can impose a requirement for prior approval with regard to the siting and/or appearance of a specific proposal.

Essentially, though the development should be permitted, objections can still be made as to where this is to be sited, and how this will influence the appearance of this area.

The mast itself would be 15m in height, and work would include the addition of three new cabinets relating to the pole and new paving slabs behind the area of the work.

This height is double that of the nearest houses on Stanley Square and 3m taller than the nearby trees.

The application was submitted to North Ayrshire Council on April 11, and is currently pending consideration.

It can be viewed in full details via the council's online planning portal, searching for reference 23/00236/TN.
