Ardrossan is to get 19 new eco friendly homes after planning permission was granted to a council housing department.
The properties will be based on the site of the former James McFarlane School in the town's Dalry Road and will also include a new road, pedestrian walkway, and parking spaces for tenants.
The former assisted needs school was recently merged into the Lockhart Campus in Stevenston, and the building was demolished last year.
The new development will have a mixture of semi-detached and terraced houses in a cul de sac facing out on to Dalry Road.
Every one of the two, three or four bedroom properties will have its' own back garden, timber fence, and solar roof panels.
All the houses, which are being built by North Ayrshire Council Housing Department, will be for social rent.
Environmentally friendly Air source heat-pumps will be fitted instead of gas boilers.
The application to build the homes by housing chiefs was lodged with North Ayrshire Council in February and planning permission granted last month.
No details were given in the planning application of when the work might start or be completed.
The local authority are hoping to meet a growing demand in Ardrossan for cheap affordable housing.
