THOSE keen to spend a summer on the high seas are being invited to check out the job opportunities currently available on board the Waverley.

The operators of the famous paddle steamer are looking to recruit further crew members for Waverley’s upcoming sailing season as it ventures Doon the Watter.

At present there are opportunities for an engine room rating fireman and a cook.

The fireman would be working for the season or in a relief capacity. Successful applicants will be responsible to the chief and second engineer for assisting with watch keeping duties, routine maintenance of the vessel’s machinery and ensuring machinery spaces are clean and tidy at all times.

It would suit someone who is newly qualified, looking for experience in a unique environment aboard a steamship or an experienced engine room rating.

Candidates will require the basic STCW safety certificates, an ENG1 Medical as well as Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats for this position.

The chief cook opportunity would be working on a rota basis across the season.

Waverley is crewed with a chief and second cook, with both positions flexible in terms of work and leave patterns, or to join for the season with shorter leave spells.

The chief cook is responsible for the galley, providing fully cooked meals to crew and passengers.

Working with a galley crew of three, they are expected to set high standards for the quality of produce served.

Anyone interested in applying for the positions should send a CV with covering letter to info@waverleyexcursions.co.uk.
