Updated proposals for a proposed private-wire wind farm in Ardeer are set to undergo public consultation.

The now refined proposals, which were withdrawn from North Ayrshire Council by the Farm Energy Company in January 2023, would deliver renewable energy for a neighbouring local employer, Berry bpi.

The plastics packaging firm has operated in Ardeer since 1984 and supports over 220 local jobs.

Three wind turbines with a generating capacity of up to 14.4MW are proposed for the brownfield site west of the Ardeer peninsula.

More information on the updated plans will be available to view at a public exhibition on April 26 at the Ardeer Community Centre.

In addition to supporting national and local renewable energy targets, the wind farm would deliver a costeffective energy source during the project lifespan.

The developer has also committed to a community benefit fund equal to £2,500 per installed megawatt, which can be used to benefit local projects and improvements in the local area.

Sarah Lapsley, technical director at the Farm Energy Company, said: “We are pleased to be bringing forward our revised proposals for a private wire wind farm in Ardeer.

“Following the withdrawal of our planning application in January 2023, we have been working hard to progress our plans and address the key concerns of a number of stakeholders.

“We look forward to sharing more detailed information on the proposals and the benefits for the local community, including our proposed community benefit fund, at our upcoming consultation.”

The proposed wind turbines would have a height of 150m and are expected to be operational for 20 years.

Once the turbines reach the end of their operational phase, they would be decommissioned, and all components removed from the site.

The public exhibition will take place between 1.45pm and 5.45pm on Wednesday, April 26, at the Ardeer Community Centre.

Members of the public will also be able to view the plans via the project website (farmenergy.co.uk/ardeer-wind-farm) and the period for feedback will be open until Sunday May 7, 2023.
