THE team at a cafe say they've been "overwhelmed" by the support of the community after vandals targeted the site.

Locals rallied round at the Doon the Beach cafe and community hub on Stevenston's shore road after staff arrived on Monday to discover the damage to their garden.

They feared that the lovely display at the front the of their building would be left in tatters - but the community moved quickly to ensure that was not the case.

The Doon the Beach team said that the very next day, two kind-hearted locals stepped up to help save what plants were salvagable, and added to the display with a donation of their own.

A representative from the Stevenston cafe said: "Massive thanks for the donations of plants and lots of thanks to Ashley and Issac for rescuing what plants could be rescued and planting the lovely donation of marigolds that you brought us and the other donations that were handed in.

"Onwards and upwards troops."

And onwards and upwards it was - as help was soon at hand again.

First, Lockhart Campus in Stevenston donated flowers from their own garden to help bring the cafe's display back to life.

And an Ayrshire-based company and even more kind-hearted individuals also contributed to their efforts.

A social media post from the cafe added: "We are absolutely overwhelmed by the support we have received with regards to the garden.

"A few thanks to give firstly to Lockhart Campus who arrived this morning with a lovely donation from their own gardens, Q&L Skip Hire Ltd for the cash donation to buy flowers, [and] May Mitchell for the lovely donation of flowers.

"There was another couple of customers who brought flowers in and I’m really sorry I never got your name.

"We really appreciate all the support."
