PLANS to erect a massive telecommunications pole in Ardrossan have been withdrawn.

Prior notification had been submitted to North Ayrshire council regarding a 15 metre (49.2 feet) high mast on Stanley Road at the beginning of this month.

The development would have been situated at the end of the road, between the turn in for Stanley Square and its junction with Dalry Road.

This site is around 12.5m away from an existing mast of a similar height on the corner between Stanley Road and Dalry Road.

This comes despite the fact the application was lodged as a prior notification form.

This means that the development should generally be acceptable in principle in planning terms - meaning no planning permissions is required.

However, before work can commence, North Ayrshire Council - as planning authority - can impose a requirement for prior approval with regard to the siting and/or appearance of a specific proposal.

Though at the beginning of this week, it has appeared on the council's online planning portal that this application has been withdrawn.

No specific reasoning for the decision has been added to the documentation for the proposal.

It is unclear whether a revised plan will be re-submitted at a later date.
