SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn MP arrived in North Ayrshire last Thursday to visit local businesses and speak to SNP members.

Mr Flynn and North Ayrshire and Arran MP Patricia Gibson met J&D Pierce, the foremost structural steelwork contractor in Scotland, and one of the largest in the UK, which employs over 400 people and is headquartered in Glengarnock.

This was followed by DSM Dalry, an employer with a growing workforce of 380, to hear of ongoing investment to extend its Dalry plant with the construction of a new facility to manufacture Bovaer®, DSM’s unique methane-reducing feed additive for cattle.

Mr Flynn addressed SNP members from across North Ayrshire & Arran constituency and said: “I pleased to meet with two of North Ayrshire’s largest and most innovative employers who, despite a challenging climate for business, are developing, growing and thriving, while providing skilled jobs for local people.

“The tour of both J&D Pierce and DSM Dalry while listening to their ambitious plans and concerns was instructive. It was also refreshing to engage with local SNP members keen to see North Ayrshire & Arran, and all of Scotland, prosper.”

North Ayrshire and Arran MP Patricia Gibson added: “For Scotland to thrive, so must our businesses. Our local employers help support sustainable economic growth and deliver employment across our communities.

“Stephen was keen to hear about the successes and challenges of our major employers and enjoyed touring the facilities to learn about their ambitions.

“Later that evening, local members packed out Kilbirnie’s Bridgend Community Centre for a very positive discussion with Stephen about the SNP’s vision for Scotland.

“We in the SNP want to build a more prosperous, more equal nation, with wellbeing as a heart. It‘s clear that this will not be delivered by a Westminster Government. Scotland needs the full powers of an independent nation, and it is for that which everyone in the SNP will continue to campaign.”
