Ex President Trump hits the golf course in Ayrshire

He flew into Prestwick Airport from Aberdeen around lunchtime, and arrived at Trump Turnberry, under a heavy police escort around 1pm.

The ex president was welcomed by staff waving hats which read: "We make Turnberry great again."

Mr Trump was quickly out on the Turnberry course, with police and his personal security team keeping a close watch.

But unlike his other visits to the resort in the past, protesters were few and far between.

He left the Turnberry Hotel in a buggy at 1.45pm, making his way to the golf course and waving to the gathered press pack and a number of supporters who had turned up to cheer him.

He posed for some press pictures before teeing off on the world-famous Turnberry course.

And he hit some decent shots, particularly at the fifth hole, despite reaching the age of 76.

Mr Trump, who is running for the White House again, is visiting Scotland as a private individual.

The trip comes as Mr Trump faces court action in the United States. Last month he pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records.

He is also facing a civil trial over an allegation that he raped an advice columnist in the mid-1990s.

Mr Trump had visited his Menie Estate golf course near Aberdeen on Monday in his first visit to the UK since 2019.

He is expected to fly to Ireland on Wednesday to visit his other UK golf course, at Doonbeg, Co Clare.

Trump visited Turnberry in 2018 while US President. At that time he was met by large crowds of protesters.

This time he received a much warmer reception from the small crowd who gathered to welcome him.

Bill Harland, who had travelled to the Ayrshire coast from Stirling, wore a Trump mask and a hat to show his support for 'The Donald'.

He told the Advertiser: "I'm a big fan of President Trump. I would go anywhere for him."
