Hunterston Rotary has recognised one of its longest serving office bearers with a prestigious award.

Jim Morton, who has held a number of important office roles at local and district level, was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for his 24 years of dedicated service.

Currently secretary of Hunterston Rotary - a position he has held for over five years - Jim has been a Rotarian since joining the Hunterston club in 1999.

Wider duties have included being district foundation chair for four years and then assistant district governor for three.

Accepting his award Jim, who lives in Largs with his wife Sadie, said: "I'm delighted and very honoured to have been given this award.

"Rotary is about doing good in the world both locally and internationally, making friends in many walks of life and enjoying yourself."

Mr Morton was presented with his award by the current Hunterston Rotary President, Jim Jackson, alongside former president Gib FitzGibbon, who said that all three presidents, including Howard Gibb, who have shared the role in Hunterston Rotary during 2022-23 wished to pay special tribute to the club secretary for his many years of service.

He said: “In recognition of his dedication to Hunterston Rotary and his District and Rotary Fellowship work, we nominated Jim for the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship award.

“As secretary, he has made sure we complied with Rotary requirements, as well as dealing with correspondence, ensuring members were always fully informed, and keeping records of all meetings and decisions.

"He has also represented the club at numerous district meetings.

“The Paul Harris Fellowship Award was established in 1957 by Rotary to show appreciation for those who have made a major contribution to its ideals of service including support for its charity, the Rotary Foundation.

“That commitment endures today through an organisation that remains truly international. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six continents.

"Our members now span the globe, working to solve some of our world’s most challenging problems, with the motto Service Above Self. Jim Morton personified those ideals.”
