It was success the first ever Big Walk and Talk event at Eglinton Country Park

Saturday May 20 saw the first ever North Ayrshire Big Walk and Talk take place as part of a public engagement event known as Green Health Day.

A range of North Ayrshire-based partners and service came together to form the unique collaboration in support of Green Health Week and Mental Health Awareness Week.

To celebrate, a range of nature based activities like gardening & growing, practical conservation, cycling and health walks have been taking place across North Ayrshire. 

Health walks were scheduled to encourage those in the community to get out in nature for their mental wellbeing with the Big Walk and Talk concluding the week at Eglinton Country Park.

The event was a big success with a total of 37 walkers taking part.

Stalls and information stands were held in the Racquet Hall and activities including Hapa-Zome arts and crafts, Bike marking, Nordic walking, drumming and more were taking part in the country park.

All activities were free and open to all to attend.

A spokesperson for KA Leisure said: "The day was a big success with over 100 different people from the public saying hello and either coming to the Racquet Hall or attending activities.

"It is the belief of all those who helped make these events possible that spending time outdoors can help improve our health and wellbeing. If you or someone you know has been struggling with mental health, this is your sign to move your body, clear your mind."
